Boston University Launches Innovative Online Program to Prepare Accountants for the CMA Examination
January 30, 2006
Boston University’s Center for Professional Education today announced an instructor-facilitated, online preparation program for accountants seeking to pass the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) examination offered by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA). Initial classes begin in January 2006.
The BU program, which will cover all sections of the exam, includes engaging interactive content, a comprehensive test question databank as well as instructor facilitation to aid potential exam-takers in mastering the content. The online program provides added flexibility and convenience for accountants preparing to take the CMA exam. A February, 2005 salary survey of 2,500 accounting professionals conducted by Smartpros.com showed that CMA- certified professionals earned 89% more than non-certified accountants and 19% more than those with only a CPA. The exam covers four topic areas: Business Analysis; Management Accounting & Reporting; Strategic Management; and Business Applications.
“We are very excited about the quality and convenience students will be afforded with our new online program,” said Ruth Ann Murray, Director, Center for Professional Education. “In addition to preparing students to take the CMA examination, these courses will be invaluable to accounting professionals looking to broaden their business and accounting skills.”
BU’s online CMA Preparation program provides six weeks of online instruction for each of the four topic areas and will be offered multiple times per year to accommodate the IMA’s rolling exam cycle. Class size will be limited to provide optimal learning outcomes.
The courses in the program have been jointly developed with MindEdge, Inc., a Waltham-based educational content provider, publisher, and supplier of online programs for adult learners. MindEdge’s robust and engaging course content, developed by leading academic and industry experts, is currently used by more than a dozen colleges and universities in the US and abroad.
“We are very happy to be working in partnership with Boston University on this new and exciting program,” said Jefferson Flanders, CEO of MindEdge. “BU is a leader in the field of quality online education and shares our belief that innovative online content and instruction offers students lasting benefits. Accountants seeking a leg up on passing the CMA examination will be well prepared by the new BU program.”
